Shifting Ground
Chinese ink and water-based mediums on paper
The work features a damselfly balancing itself on the tip of a leaf, oblivious its reality of standing on 'shifting ground'. Herein lies the paradox, that its desire to seek and achieve balance is to tend to it in perpetuity. I drew the red lines are drawn over the leaves, one at a time, slowly and repetitively. The process can be considered reflexive and performative in nature, with one line determining the next. There was no predetermined path nor were there prescribed format.
