This performance seeks to redefine sensibility towards ink as a material imbued with cultural narratives and rhetoric, through an intimate bodily encounter with Chinese ink. The carbon-based ancient material is conceptualised here as a cultural conduit. This elemental entity is like a ghost; formless, indeterminate, receding like a puzzle of a shadow that had long resided. Deeply embedded in the human consciousness through its use, history, and place; sharp, and jolting, like a well sharpened blade, cutting through the toughest layer of my cultural skin.
