This work draws influence from Chinese calligraphy, drawing on the intentionality and gestural brush marks. Using ink and substrates that are susceptible to change and transformation, this performance aims to bring a focus to the intangible presence between indexical markings. Not dissimilar to ‘reading between the lines’, where oblique articulations and unspoken meanings manifest, and where the gap between marks becomes an expandable presence.

“When I place the first mark on a surface, I am acutely aware of the space surrounding it. This space possesses a palpable presence that evolves with each mark. It is neither neutral nor void.”
